i guess i missed that post , but i use assembly lube on them.  basically its 
like a red stp consistancy. sometimes i mix my own , other times i buy the big 
bottle at the machine shop.  when i was starting out doing engines i used to 
pack the seals with vaseline.   that was from a book somewhere in the sixtys.  
wipe some on the surface of the crank and the seal.  same with tranny work. 
put it on bearings  , seals ,gears , and shafts(moving parts)
