<VV> Modified turbo question

I have received a turbocharger for rebuild and modification that has what
is referred to as a "reduced scroll" 180 HP style turbine housing. Clarks
says they sold them many (6-8) years ago, and that all of them were cut in
two pieces and welded back (it is one of the sloppier welding jobs I have
seen :-). I am checking to see if anyone in the group has some experience,
good or bad, with one of these. I am a little concerned about hot spots at
the weld and its durability and performance. I am going to install an
E-flow impeller on the other end to handle a 2" SU carburetor. Thanks for
any input, and private is okay if you think it is appropriate.
