<VV> Warped Carbs? - Easy does it!

I really know of no way the base could warp unless gaskets were used instead
of the original bakelite/plastic spacers. Those are pretty rigid. Unless
Magilla Gorilla was torquing down the nuts - which would normally pull a stud
out, I'll bet - there shouldn't be enough bending torque on the carb to twist
it. Holley 4-barrels are notorious for breaking off mounting feet when gaskets
are used and nuts are overtorqued. It is especially bad when the aluminum
multi-stack aluminum/gasket sandwich is used, in an attempt to
temperature-isolate the carb from the manifold. Personally, I never use the gaskets between
the carb and the manifold on the Corvair, just the original (non-turbo)
bakelite isolator. If you must, a slight patina of silicone between the bakelite
and the manifold is okay - no "Bead", just a "smidgen" (technical term) of the
high-temp variety. - Seth Emerson
