Worst ever for me was a 62 VW Baja Bug with HadleyTransVair kit...

Got it finished....went to start engine whick was a runner from 61...no
choke cables = no choke....Backfired and broke starter snout...

R & R Starter...nose cone..... checked for loose flywheel with pry bar = OK,
retarded timing and manually closed chokes...

Engine fired and went right to idle......for about 30
seconds...........wouldn't restart....bad fuel pump.....no problem

15 minutes later running again......started to put tools away and close up
garage to go for a test run......went into house to wash up and lock up...

Came back out and it had died....no restart......bad coil! Easy.....

10 min. later engine started.....closed up shop......jumped in car.....put
foot on brake pedal.....had several times passed the hard harder test......To
the floor! LR wheel cylinder had blown?? Dismantled...cleaned up and
re-assembled..bled.....all was well [ never another brake problem in the 2 yrs. I
had it ]

Jumped in...started up...pedal hard.....put in gear..off I went.....drove
approx. 20 miles....perfect........went to local cafe for a break.....came out 30
minutes later.....cranked it and nose cone broke!

Put my fist thru already cracked windshield...OUCH! .....got some
bandages..and a few guys to push start....

R & R'd engine and FW....sent wife for new winshield and to get the FW
welded solid [ $5 to weld, $15 for new glass in 1977...never another problem!

2 yrs later traded for my favorite all time Vair!
