That would require the engine lid to be somewhat modified. The reason it  
works is because it is an improvement. The turbulence of the air increases as it  
passes through the air cleaner system. The edges of the stamped sheet metal, 
the  element and all of the required turns make things worse. By adding 2 
inches of  straight pipe directly before the carb just serves to give the air a 
bit more  distance to get its act together.
