Hi Norm,
Here are a few suggestions. First always carry a gallon can of gas and a
metal 1# coffee can. Also flare nut wrenches to fit the carb gas inlet line
(plus 1" open wrench for the nut).

Now if/when this happens, remove the carb air cleaners and dump about two or
three tablespoons of gas down each carb. See if it will start then. (it will
only run for five seconds or so) If so, the carbs are dry. If not maybe it's
something else.
Also when the problem occurs, unfasten the inlet gas line from one of the
carbs and place the metal can under the line so as to catch any gas coming out.
Crank the engine over and see if there is gas getting to the carb. probably
best to disable the ign when doing this to prevent the engine from starting
and flowing lots of gas into the can.
Hope that this helps.
Regards,
Bob Helt
