I've had some experience with these window motors myself, Russ. What seems to
happen is that the motor stops in almost exactly the same place each and
every time the window is rolled fully up or down. This spot in the motor's
commutator gets burned since it always stops in the same place and folks tend to
keep their finger on the button after the window reaches the end of the line and
this further frys the commutator. You can get one going again by pushing the
power window button and firmly slapping the lower portion of the door (inside
or outside or try both). The vibrations will jiggle the motor and usually the
window will start working. Remember to do this with the key ON and the button
pushed. Run the window up and down a bunch of times (but not fully to the
end stops) and that will clean up the commutator a bit. Exercize the rear
windows about once a month to keep them alive and remove your finger from the
control button right when the window reaches the top or bottom. Refrain from
"testing" the closure of the window - some drivers have the habit of pushing the
control buttons one-by-one to confirm full closure of the windows when they park
or whatever. Each one of these little "tests" further burns the already
stressed portion of the motor's commutator and brushes.
