You said... One fact I am concerned with is that the
motor seems to be running on the hot side; about 425. I'm wondering whether
engine compartment temps can be more of a factor than ambient air when it
comes to vapor lock.

SCHOOL IS NOW IN SESSION -
I agree with Norm's answer except I state it this way...A fire [combustion]
is like a 3 legged triangle...air, fuel, heat [from spark or diesel
compression]...damage any of the 3 legs and the triangle collapses and you
have no fire. Verify all 3 legs are OK and the fire will return.

VAPOR LOCK - when the temp of the fuel gets high enough to
vaporize...doesn't matter the source of the heat [heat is heat, kinda like
Parts is Parts]...the carbs are designed to use liquid, not vaporized, fuel.
Note: for an Eye-Catching solution weld a long electronic heat sink onto
your fuel line, or maybe some finned brake drums - ha.

HEAT TRANSFERS - from the warmer to the cooler object...If one object is
2000 degrees F and another is 1999 deg both are hot to the human body but
the heat will still transfer from the warmer to the cooler object. [This is
the basic behind air conditioning].

SCHOOL IS OVER!

Have a GREAT American Day!
