Want some Corvair stupid? Last night I backed the '66 Corvair
convertible out of the garage to get the car dolly out. It was cold
(mid-40s), so I thought I'd let it run and warm up a little. I set the
parking brake and went back into the garage. A couple of minutes later
I heard a crash and saw the car sitting about 100 feet down the
driveway, smashed up against a tree.

I did set the brake, but left the car in reverse (Powerglide). As I
should have remembered, the parking brake doesn't hold real well in
reverse. The engine began to speed up as it warmed up, so the car
decided to take a drive on its own. Lots of damage to the rear (engine
lid, bumper, rear cove, lower grill, lower sheet metal, muffler), but
it's all confined to the rear. We live in a heavily wooded area, so it
could have been worse.

Stupid is as stupid does. I'll soon find out how Hagerty is with
claims.
