<VV> Lead in gasoline

I run actual leaded (racing) fuel in some of my (non-Corvair) engines
that are highly stressed and prone to valve seat problems. Even though I
run a 50/50 mix of that and 93 octane unleaded, I still get the smell
and deposits that really take me back to when I first began working on
cars in the early 80's. (Interestingly, I have to richen up the cars
when I run them on this mix...) Lead substitute additives are not much
cheaper and of (a more) questionable effectiveness.

(I have one late model turbocharged European car that has a HUGE warning
in the owners manual NOT to run unleaded fuel in the car under ANY
circumstances).

I would not run leaded fuel in a Corvair unless I had to (for the
octane) and then only if I had no readily available alternative. Unless
it was free of course! ;-)
