If it is lock-tite or similar glue, place a block of wood (piece of 2x4) 
against the handle and strike sharply with a hammer. You could heat the 
handle with a torch to losten the lock-tite (and maybe replace the 
handle as discoloration and a melted knob are possible), but the old 
door panel will be ruined, and more if there is a fire!

Do look closely to see if another type of wire or fastener is in place. 
People get creative when the proper part is not handy! Also make sure 
the clip is just not installed from the other direction, i.e. push the 
tool on not from under the knob side.
