Hi Cash,

  Yes it can be done. I just did the one in my 66 a few months ago.
You need to strip it down to the metal frame and make sure that the
metal is nice and clean. The new dash pad gets glued to the old one.
It is not too hard if you follow the directions carefully. It was
very stressful to me to cut off the excess vinyl without cutting off
too much etc. I have seen vinyl dash caps on Ebay. Don't know how
well these fit or look, but if there were decent I would have rather
done this. Good luck!

Anyone have any idea if these padded dashes can be recovered. Do they 
have to be stripped down to the metal?
