<VV> Taking the turbo

It sounds as though you folks have an outing planned. Have a good time.

FWIW - It is common in my area of the world for the pulleys to get a bit
rusty over a long period of non-use. If you then just start up and drive
off, the pulleys get clean - at the expense of the belt. The rust is like
sand paper to the sides of the belt and will narrow (and heat) it to the
point of breaking it, usually within about 50 to 100 miles.

The other thing is that the belt can take a "set" where it wraps around the
pulleys and this can become a place where it can flip off until it gets a
fair amount of use and becomes a bit more flexible again. I don't know if
either of these things played a role in this instance, but they are
certainly likely factors.

Icemobile - the red beater coupe - sits all summer and gets started up in
the late fall - sometimes not until December (when it is too darn cold to
spend much time on it). It is typical to break a belt on that car once a
year. Why? Because we often forget to clean up the pulleys before putting
it back into service. So, it costs $10 (or whatever) per year to let the
belt clean the pulleys.
