Recently had a club members' '69 convertible differential apart. No baffle
on the underside of his cover. All indications are that it is the original
drivetrain as well.

As far as the aluminum cover instead of the steel cover, in a stock Corvair
drivetrain, I can't see any real advantage, other than making your pocket
feel lighter. Now, if we're talking V8 applications, the only way to go
would be with a 1/4" steel plate in lieu of the stamped steel plate.
