The obvious trick here is to haunt flea markets or garage sales and 
buy some old 2nd-hand used jack stands.   Get the ones that are 
scarred and scuffed and look as if they've been used long and hard.

They'll likely be cheap and will be made of guns and not butter and 
thus trust worthy.
