Back in 1975, as a 16 year old with a 65, 110.pg 4 door, (paid $40) I drove  
to Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. This was before bracket racing days. Then 
 the Corvair, in stock form ran y/pure stock. Well, since I had a hot rod, 
L-78  15 tires on rear on Crager SS, and 14's on the front, I couldn't run pure 
stock.  They put me in W/SA, a faster class. Like in bracket racing, you ran 
off of your  nat'l record in that class, which was something like 18.00 sec. 
That means the  other guy had to let me out, but not as much as I needed. Well 
damn, after  watching me drive down the track for 5 or 6 seconds he takes off 
and red lights,  I go 21.76 at 69 mph. I won the round (only one) but also got 
a OCIC trophy  (only car in class). The exciting thing was just before the 
first round, my  brake pedal goes to the floor. The shift cable had worn a hole 
in the brake line  where they crossed in front of the rear axle. We bent the 
broken line and  hammered it flat. borrowed some brake fluid and just had front 
brakes. Two days  later, still with front brakes only some guy runs a stop 
sign and I lock them  (2) up and t-bone him. In my old age, I often wonder how I 
survived to get  here!!
