My recollection is pretty much the same.  I think the letters B R A T stood 
for "Bi-drive Radical All Terrain"  and I *think* the seats in the back 
allowed them to import or sell it as a car instead of a truck....the reverse 
of the "dustbuster" vans being considered trucks.
