Not sure if it will seal up with crooked forks, but it is possible, at least
with the 66-69 trannies to put the 1-2 fork in upside down. With the 1-2
shift fork upside down, the mechanism will lock up in one gear, first I
think. Learned that the hard way.

Gentlemen, is it possible that when David reinstalled the side cover on the
transmission that one or both of the shifter forks went in crooked and is
not
allowing the transmission to shift? If the problem is internal the cover
will
have to be removed anyway and it is a lot easier than removing the
transmission. I wrote "is it possible" because I am not sure if the cover
will seat
solidly if a fork is not in the right position. Comments from experience
are
welcomed. Thanks
