<VV> Fuel gauge questions

Greetings to all you knowledgeable folks

My 'vert should be on the road by Monday at the latest. Just need to
install pads in the front and off she goes to the inspection guy.

My question: the fuel gauge doesn't work. I've had the sending unit and
fuel float? checked and they appear to be working fine. I would like to
replace the gauge, but it seems like I am going to have to offer up my first
born to get one. (she'll be a teenager in a year...I might reconsider then)
  :-)

Are there any cross references for other Chevy fuel gauges that would work
in my car? I tried cross referencing the archives but couldn't find any
postings that seemed to deal with this. Is there any way to clean or repair
a fuel gauge? I don't know what is involved in them so I don't know if that
is a silly question or not.

To those that went to Detroit, I hope you all had a great time! I wish that
I was able to go, but life got in the way. Maybe next year.

Thanks, in advance, for all answers and suggestions.

Mel.
