There is one other thing that could be making the dripping carb drip. I have seen more than a few later carbs where the choke assist spring was installed improperly and was thus helping keep the float open against the pressure of the fuel. If everything else checks out, look to make sure that the bent end of the spring is on the side of the inlet seat closest to the two support studs and that the longer straight end is through the hole in the float assembly. Hold the top assembly like it would be when installed to ensure that the float is closed, or takes very little assistance to close. While an improper float level can cause the problem, it is unlikely since the carb was working properly.
