I used cove base molding from Home Depot for years. I backed it with a long piece of plastic formed into an angle (about 1" x 3") bolted to the car and the cove base attached to it with trim screws. It didn't flop in the breeze and it also didn't do well against curbs. But it only took about 5 minutes and $3 to replace. It was functional, looked good and, more importantly, the chicks dig it!
