The jacking piece was never the thing that confounded me when installing 
  the strut rods to the trailing arm. It was the outward twist of the 
trailing arm that caused me issue. My solution was to get 2 pieces of
chain and a large turnbuckle, put one end of the chain on a lugnut ( 
wheel off of course ), secure it with a lugnut, connect the other chain
to an anchor point ( lugnut on other side or some other strong point ), 
install the turnbuckle fully extended, then tighten the turnbuckle until
  the orientation of the trailing arm could accept the strut when jacked.
This saved me lots of time and cursing compared to no turnbuckle.
