As Joel mentioned.....unless there's a PC  valve at the steel 
tube......you've got a giant vacuum leak..that suck oil constantly!

IF you DO have a PC valve......you still have nowhere for EXCESS  blowby to 
escape [ normally the 1/2" tube goes to the CLEAN side of an air cleaner 
with a 3/8"  TEE  coming off the 1/2" tube, midway, that either has the PC 
valve connected or [ later]  a 0.062"  hole in the 3/8" tube that acts as 
the PC valve..

This would also make it smoke while driving!
