<VV> Electric Fuel Pumps vs Diaphragm

I met a new member to WCC for the first time last weekend. Popped the lid
to check out is Corsa. Spare tire had TWO failed FLAPS fuel pumps in it,
with a third on the motor. Guess what mod we'll be helping him out with
soon?

Then again, my Rampy has 30K+miles in the last 2 years with a MUCH older
mechanical pump on it and it's still going. It'll be outta there soon
though, I'd rather have an electric fail and have the car stop then wait for
the mechanical to fail and fill the crankcase with gas.

Regards,
Joel

I've had one diaphragm pump fail on the road in the last 25 years. I'm
presently runnung three Corvairs and would take them anywhere. Today we did

a parade in a town about 1 1/2 hours away and I even forgot to take my
"spares" kit. My '75 olds used to fail a fuel pump about every two years.
The Corvairs are doing a lot better than that. Electric pumps fail also and

the stock pumps are a lot easier to change. I see absolutely no reason to
switch to electrics.
