Bill,

I seem to have been getting about 17 mpg on the last 'big' trip.'

Typically loaded down with old ham radio junk , camping gear, tools etc.

Speeds about 65 - 70 - sometimes faster. Oh ! the stares from drivers in disbelief that a VW bus was passing them .

I do have a plug fouling problem. The carbs need work . And no doubt there is some inefficency in mpg there.

I have begun collecting parts for a Megasquirt conversion and Marty Scarr from this group ( who has been very patient with my questions ) has given me some very useful information.

Mark

Most folks with VW engines in Westies seem to get mid-teens on the
highway at 50-55mph (though some claim much higher numbers); my
110/PG/3.55 Westy got 19 mpg overall in mixed use (completely loaded
down with extra fuel, tool, parts, tow bar, rooftop AC, microwave, full
camping gear, etc) on the wife's 10,000 mile trip and does slightly
better than that on the highway at 60-65mpg in "non-safari" loadings... ;-)
