I have a 110 PG (1965-66). Attempting to fire it up. Good battery, good fuel delivery, good spark.
Upon turning over I am getting a clunking noise, coming from the bell housing area. I suspected a broken tooth on the starter or a bad solenoid from not retracting off the flywheel and removed it. All looks good, put it back on. Then suspected a chipped, worn or broken tooth on the flywheel and reviewed the wheel using a slotted screwdriver and rotating it via the access hole in the PG housing. and nothing unusual.
So I put everything back together and turned it over and get this loud clatter, and I don't think its the valve train either.
So I am suspecting a bad ring gear? or bad transmisson? torque converter?
I recorded the noise with my cell phone and I could post it for anyone to hear, the quality is not so hot but its better than nothing. Anyone have any other suggestions? or other diagnostic tips?
