Another trick that works well ...

If time or money is tight or you can't get a new solenoid
right when you need it, try this:

Disconnect the  ground cable at the battery.
Disconnect the positive battery cable from the starter
Remove the nut that is under the battery cable.
Carefully push the remaining stud / bolt about 1/4 inch back
into the solenoid housing.
rotate the stud 180 degrees and pull it back out.
Reinstall the retaining nut
Reinstall the positive battery cable.
Hook up the ground cable at the battery.

This works ... once ... but it could last for years giving 
you plenty of time to locate a new solenoid.
