<VV> VV: DOHC Engines

Bill: Five employees of Peugeot started work on the first DOHC engine in
1909. It won the INDY 500 in 1913. When it finally died, it ended up in
the hands of Fred Offenhauser at the Miller Auto Company. Fred reversed
engineered it, and Miller began manufacturing engines we know today as
Miller's, Offenhauser or the Meyer-Drake. Yep, the "OFFY", which was the
mainstay of USAC Champ car and Midget racing until the turbo Cosworth came
along in 1975. (Which is a another story.) And in a
turn-about-is-fair-play, E. Bugatti acquired two Miller (model 91's think)
Indy cars in the '20's and reversed engineered them into his famous straight
8 Grand Prix engine.

the Porsche is water cooled double OHC, and 40 years later ...

And of those two items, only the water and the other two cylinders are
new -- the dohc's have been around since, gee, 1955?
