1st... Thanks to all who gave hints / tips...  and TRICKS!!
 
Geoff Johnson of Alb. NM   had the Secret!
 
 
Since there is no way you will get the defroster duct out without   FORCE...
 
Bend Slightly - 1/2-3/4"  the 2 tabs that hold the shafts when  mounted....
 
Radio turns up and falls out...
 
Nothing is harmed in this procedure... you'd have to remove your radio  
dozens of times to  see the tabs break...
 
note:  to install a DIN  radio in the LM Vair dash without  cutting....I bend 
both tabs BACK  90 deg...
 
and just using a small roundfile...notch the upper corners....  cannot  be 
seen if stock faceplate is  used again!
