Actually Pontiac had their own engine--a 348 if I remember correctly (their  
4cylinder was 1/2 of the V8).  The BOP referenced the car bodies, but the  
aluminum V8's of 61-63 were only BO :).  With the larger '64 models  everything 
changed--body and engine wise.
