I would think the oil bath cleaner is a really good idea. GM must have done 
it because they felt it was needed.... Regular filters are downstream and 
yes, they are used. Don't know what type of oil is used. Not too 
restrictive. Fuel economy? Guess is a little bit lower but not much.
