Old Henry thought that radical ideas like hydraulic
brakes were the machinations of the bankers and other
subsersive influences...he refused to have anything to
do with "technology" beyond the Model T unless sales
were being affected in a disastrous way (like Chevy
taking the lead in the low-price field from 1927 on).

That's why Fords had buggy spring suspensions until
1949, mechanical brakes until 1938, etc.  If he were
alive today, Focuses and Expeditions would have
2-wheel mechanical brakes and flathead fours, started
by cranking LOL.

Sadly, Edsel Ford, the old man's son, had more
progressive ideas, but was always put down by his
domineering father.  Today we'd call Edsel a victim of
child abuse...Bill H.
