<VV> Bulbs burn out quickly?

It sort of acts sort of like a slo-blow fuse if it is supplying power to 
other places - beyond it's capacity to do so.  This would be an indicator of 
one or more bad grounds SOMEPLACE.  The current is using the filament in 
that situation as a path to ground.

This is not to say that this is the problem that pab is experiencing, 
possible but I don't think probable.
