<VV> valve adjustment

Spinning usually works fine for me. But the last engine with new
lifters, cam and rocker/ball set a friend built did not adjust well with
the "spinning the push rod" method. I ended up doing the adjustment hot
with cut down valve covers to get it sounding right. Next time I get one
of these difficult situations I might try a .001 or so feeler gage like
Matt says and see if the results are better.
