Shaun,
     Your "Methyl hydrate" is more commonly called methyl alcohol or methanol and is the main ingredient of the common "Dry Gas".  However it is more corrosive and has less water absorption capability compared to isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol).  This is sold as "Iso-Dri" in some areas.  Just read the label to see that it contains isopropyl alcohol instead of methyl alcohol.
