Odds would be against it -- coils rarely fail, even though many get
replaced -- sorta like F**d starter solenoids that start clicking a lot
like a buzzer when the battery is dead, instead of fixing the charging
system problem, they replace a perfectly good working solenoid. A coil
is one of the most reliable electrical componenets in any older vehicle
(can't say the same thing about newer multi-pack coils)regular oil
filled ones perhaps slightly less reliable than epoxy ones, if there is
any evidence of an oil leak.

If ya just gotta replace something, try putting in that spare set of
points & cond already mounted to a distributor plate that you carry in
the glovebox because you have an Ignitor and may want to get home some
dark & rainy night.
