<VV> Ultra Van question / hydraulic brake lock

Lon is correct. Ultras came with drum brakes.

The conversion on #379 was done by Howard Boso who is an active member of the UVMCC. The owner should contact Howard for guidance rather than people who may have never have seen the set-up (excluding Jim Davis who has seen it).

The new owner will find contact information in her Ultra Van Club directory. If she's not a member then it's time to join.

Ken

Joe, and everyone else,
:-)
This particular Ultra has disc in the rear, drum in the front. Originally
all Ultras had drums front & rear, with the front from a Chevy II and the rear
being LM Corvair.... the current rear disc brakes are "80-something Buick"
according to an "inside source with the UltraVan Underworld" (a.k.a. Jim
Davis)... I've not personally inspected the Ultra, but will in a few weeks... it
might be something as simple as correctly bleeding the air out of the system (to
cure the mushy feel)... but the parking brake fix is going to take a LOT of
thinking...
By the way, THANK YOU for ALL the tips and ideas you sent me over the last
few days... keep them coming!!!!
As for converting back to drum, I have no idea if she has the parts for such
a project... but it wouldn't hurt to look.
Thanks for the input Joe... and I'll keep y'all posted.
Lonzo

Hi, Maybe I missed something in the original post, but I have been thinking
that the Ultra Van (is that UV exposure?) has four-wheel disk brakes. I'm
also thinking that the UV has a Power Glide, so no park - in which case a
mechanical e-brake is a must have feature. I like keeping things simple; if the UV
has four-wheel disk brakes, I think the the mechanically easiest and
simplest is to convert the rear disks back to drum brakes and reinstall the e-brake
for the rear drums. The UV would have disks on front and drums on the rear,
but this combination worked well for my 70 Camaro, and was easy to maintain.
At any rate, this is just a thought, and, if I have totally misunderstood -
never mind ...
