<VV> Rear Window/back glass with defroster wires cleaning (no Corvair-for most of us)

Need some advice. Bought a car with hatch back that has defroster wires on glass. Trying to clean rear window with Windex. Not doing the job. I may not have enough elbow grease to get it clean.  Any suggestions of a cleaning solution/ pad, etc. that won't harm the wires which seem to be on surface of inside of glass?
