You have to remove both the front plastic heater duct assembly as well as the long horizontal plastic heater duct assembly.  If you remove the front duct first from inside the passenger compartment, then the long duct will drop down easily.  There is one screw in the middle of the front duct assembly at the top and another one on one side of the duct about halfway down.  These screws retain the front heater duct.  First, you must remove the short connecting duct that joins the front vertical plastic duct to the plastic defroster duct assemblyso that you have access to the screw in the middle of that front duct assembly.  You also have to remove "defroster valve" from the front plastic duct,  Four screws hold it in position.  You don't have to remove the defroster flexible cable; just swing the assembly out of the way.
