<VV> archer kit CDI?

Hey guys,

     The 66' Corsa 140/4 I just recently bought has an "Archer Kit" mounted on the firewall.  This box says something about CDI on it... it has some wires that run to what appears to be a stock coil... and the distributor looks stock inside.. still has points....

     So the question is... what does this "Archer Kit" do... and is it actually beneficial?...  if I choose to eliminate it is there anything I need to do besides take it out?
