Spineless. I guess that the founders of CORSA 40 years ago were spineless
for NOT requiring the 100% membership. I guess that CORSA only supports the
chapters? I think it is a two way street here. I can see your points and it
may seem like an easy fix but I don't think it would work they way you see
it. The chapters support CORSA with the exposure the public gets to the
Corvair. The more members a chapter has (member of CORSA or not) the more
the car is exposed. If more people get the "itch" then the more Corvairs we
can get into the fold. Once someone purchases a Corvair then they start to
ask questions and look up stuff online. If we continue to bad mouth non
members then they in turn probably will probably not tell anyone about
CORSA. In Bay State we have many non CORSA members. One of them is even a
mechanic who continues to promote the Corvair. He has his own reason for
not
being in CORSA but he is certainly not someone who picks for free info just
to sell a car. He is defiantly in the business of keeping Corvairs running
for future generations.
Also for the "freeloader" clubs (and I guess I belong to one of them
according to some of you) We have to pay the fee for not being 100%
compliant. Don't you think that covers us for the non members? Remember we
don't have to mail them a magazine every month or a membership card so the
only cost they give CORSA is the insurance.
If we "force" people to join there may even be some current members that
may
leave because a friend in the local chapter is not and doesn't want to join
and that friend is ousted out of the chapter. So the trend continues. I
don't think the 100 membership is going to solve any financial problem
CORSA
has. The best way for us to increase membership is to be more open and
inviting to ALL Corvair owners. Also when members SELL a car do they give a
local chapter and CORSA membership form with the paperwork? If not perhaps
that is also a good way to promote both parties.
I know that you guys probably don't agree with me but it's just another way
of looking at the picture. Trust me I don't expect anyone on this side of
the fence to agree with me but I don't think that calling the BOD spineless
is the way to vocalize your opinion. After all we are volunteers and don't
need the negative comments about our commitment to CORSA. If you don't like
the direction we are going then I expect your names on the ballot next
year.

I have to agree with Allen. I fail to see how CORSA would be hurt by
requiring 100% membership from all Chartered Chapters. What is the
downside
to CORSA if the folks who don't want to pay CORSA dues decide to quit? Is
CORSA afraid that current CORSA members will quit CORSA if they are
required
to be members of CORSA in order to join a CORSA Chapter? If that is the
case, let them leave.

Here is what the real problem is, folks. There are certain CORSA Board
members who belong to local Chartered chapters that do not require CORSA
membership. One of these clubs is a very large mid-western club that
several powerful CORSA members attend, and THEY don't want to take a chance
on messing up their organization to support CORSA. This is more than just
spineless leadership, it is corrupt leadership.

I do not want to let this go silent. Corsa supports local chapters
who
have events, shows, assist with technical advice and meetings. It also
supports a web site that any one can see the online classifieds, other
various things and publishes a fine magazine. We now have a declining
membership so we raise dues instead of reducing cost and requiring Chapters
to have 100% membership. What amuses me is that we have leadership that is
spineless in making it manditory for 100 % membership in Corsa. If current
club members that belong to a local chapter and not Corsa can't figure out
the benifits of Corsa then they need to sell their Corvair and move on or
find someone else to support their cheap A....! They usally milk members
for technical help and parts then sell the car anyway. Not a real
enthusiast in my book. Whats the loss? The problem reminds me of our
wonderful Congress. Lets give free social security and health care to all
the illegal imigrants so we can supp ort them with our tax dollars. So
our
treasury has a massive deficit.
Quick solution, just raise the taxes on the productive folks in society.
After all we may offend them. I don't like my dues going up to support
free
loaders. This is the only major national car club that is run like this.
What a joke! I think the BOD needs to reconsider this before I reconsider
where I send my money. A very offended past Corsa Prez. Former TCC Prez,
Corvair and Corsa enthusiast. Allen
