<VV> I got the 63 spyder on Ebay

Yes, we won the auction.

As a result of information, very much apppreciated help, we contacted Tony and he agreed to inspect the car.

Tony really knows his stuff, and confirmed the car was in excellent condition. He took a couple of pictures of the underside, and it is pretty clean. He mentioned the changes from original, and we have them on record.

We won the auction at $10,500 and we think we got a good deal, The interior is all new, and the engine, turbo and trans are in good shape, all being rebuilt not too many miles ago.

We are awaiting delivery in couple of weeks, and we are very excited.

Much thanks to several people who offered advice! VV rocks!

Now I have to figure out how much I'll do to our old 64, we don't have room for two cars!

Jim, did you ever here from Bill about the Spyder?  It was owned by an older
fellow in Asheville. Did you win this car? John

BOB SAID ... I guess the CORSA concours committee suffered from NIH because
no future
convention used our computerized tallying.  I do not know how it is
being done today.

Obviously a good idea lost by the 'reinvention of the wheel' method of
convention planning.  Another good reason to standardize CORSA Conventions.

I receive VV emails in digest mode so I can quickly sort out which emails I
want to read.

Occasionally, someone replies to a digest email and inadvertently copies the
ENTIRE digest post, i.e. ALL the emails in that digest. It is a little
annoying, but life is too short to worry about occasional happenings.

A real problem arises when someone replies to the first reply and CONTINUES
to copy the ENTIRE digest! The last few digest postings have had this very
problem. This snowballed when even more people replied. Half of the digest's
contents were repostings of the first copied digest!

Guys and Gals: please look at what you are posting. There is a delete key on
every computer I've ever seen. Learn to use it , please.

Now back to your regular reading.

Jim,

"logg" is the ebay identity of a man in Anderson, SC that sells cars
for Jerry Wells, also of Anderson, SC, on ebay.  Jerry is part owner
of a used car business in Anderson, and a member of CORSA and CORSA
SC.  Jerry buys and sells a lot of Corvairs, most of them selling on
ebay.  He seems to get them out of thin air, which is to say, if
there's a Corvair for sale in the southeast, Jerry probably knows
about it.  If he thinks he can make some money on it, he'll probably
buy it.

I think most of the cars he buys need some work done to them.  Jerry
is not a mechanic and uses two or three Corvair mechanics to work on
these cars for him.  The bodywork is done by a relative, I think it's
a brother-in-law, who has a body shop.

Jerry's phone number usually appears in the ad and you can always call
him about the car.  In this ad, he mentions Bill Prichard, in Black
Mountain, NC, also a member of CORSA, CORSA SC, and CORSA NC.  Bill is
a friend of many of us and an excellent mechanic.  He is active in the
Highlands Sports Car Club of Asheville, NC, and often does the
announcing for area autocrosses and hill climbs, including
conventions.  Bill is sort of the "Voice of Autocrossing" in the SE.
You can call Bill about this particular car at: 828-669-7076.

I am usually not familiar with the cars Jerry sells, as they usually
come from out of this area.  Once in a while he drives one to a
meeting or calls me to tell me about a particular car he's bought.  I
have no knowledge of this car.

Jerry usually seems to do well selling these Corvairs on ebay.  Some
times he gets taken, like anyone would, by buying a car then finding
it needs more than he expected in order to sell it.  Sometimes he gets
more than the car is worth and I think he would tell you that
himself.  Sometimes he gets a dead-beat buyer who backs out of the
purchase.  His ebay ads are generally well-written and include good
pictures.  All of the cars he sells seem to be "stunning" a word that
seems to add $500 to the value of a car on ebay.  You'll notice,
however, there are no pictures of the underside of this car.  There is
also no mention of awards this car has won at area shows or concours.

Tony Ellison lives closer to Jerry and sometimes has knowledge of the
cars he's selling.  Tony is a well-known racer, mechanic, and all-
around nice person and member of CORSA SC and CORSA.  Tony's number
is: 864-964-9835.  I don't have time to go and look at this car for
you, before it sells, but for a few bucks, Tony might, if you're
seriously considering bidding.  If I can be of more help to you, my
phone number is 864-268-2884.

?My .02 Perhaps we should also not judge the engine compartment,?as it too
can get dirty, likewise the same should go for the floors, as a long
trip?certainly will get something on it too. Oh yeah, the bugs on the front.
I Hate to have to clean them off.

? At the CORSA?'84 national, I trailered the car in, then ran in the rally,
the autocross, found out that the oil cap came off and drenched the entire
engine compartment in nice clean oil. It took a can of gunk and the hotels
dock cleaning hose to get?the car?clean again. I guess you know the score.?I
still was able to get best in show. The car was still a gold winner at the
Pennsylvania national.

?Keep it tough. There are too many excellent cars out there. Detailing gets
it done.
