As I said, it's the same results with two good, charged batteries.

It was previously running fairly well, pinging and knocking from sitting for 
13 years, and now it won't crank ... even with a "jump starter" thingy ???

I pulled the plugs and tried to turn the engine with the fan belt, and it 
seems harder than normal (very hard), making me think terrible things ...

Banging on starter would free up stuck solenoid, but will that help sluggish 
cranking ?
