What worked for me is to jack up the drivers side, and remove the rear 
wheel. Now you can sit on the ground, put your legs under the engine with 
the brake drum in your lap, an reach in and 'get to' the bolts. Remove them, 
swing the starter around, to sit on the axle, remove the wires. Now the 
starter can be easily 'fished' out of the car, and returned to its normal 
place.
