<VV> Corvair steering box lash adjust screw turns with locknut ?

What I meant was, I couldn't turn it any further CW than it already was.

In other words, I could not make it any tighter.

The locknut is tight on the screw and I need to have them free from each other, so that I can turn the screw CW (with them doing the old 'lockstep' the CW movement is limited to what I had when I started)

If I turn the screw out (CCW) to get the locknut free from the screw, will I damage anything ?

Charlie

I can't adjust the screw any further than the locknut allows (CW).

The screw has a ball and a clip holding it to the worm gear...

  Did the steering get stiff?

   If not... it's toast..
