It's pretty certain that without the Corvair Ford wouldn't have been 
compelled to produced its own rear engined compact "sporty" looking 
concept car that Ford branded as "Mustang".


...how many of you knew the first Mustang concept car was a rear 
engined Corvair competitor?


It was quickly "typecast" by its rather LARGE air intake scoops on 
the sides of the rear fenders... a design tradition that continued 
with the production models that hit the streets 3 years later, and to 
this day Mustangs still wear that design depicting fake air intake 
scoops on their rear fenders.
