if, oh I should make that "BIG IF" the original owner manual is with your 
paper work - maybe in the glove box?  Then you should look at the last page 
for the "protecto plate" which would contain the name of the selling dealer 
and the original owner.  To read some of the info, hold it up to a mirror 
since the lettering is reversed.

On the other hand, CA is somewhat unique on the way it handles license 
plates - the plate stays with the car when sold.  So, if the car sold new in 
CA and if the car was never sold to an out of state owner - it should have a 
black license plate which would have been the first (only) one issued. 
Maybe the state can research the plate records?  Even though I'm in IL, I 
have a '65 Monza which sold new in CA and I also have the original plate.  I 
am the third owner.
