<VV> Radio Problems

Help!! Why will my radio not play?  I put an AM-FM radio in my 69 Conv. and 
I am getting only about five percent sound.  This is an org. AM-FM radio out 
of another Corvair.  I had it rebuilt and it works fine outside of the car. 
The speaker is brand new and works fine.  Brand new AM-FM antenna also. 
When I put the radio in the dash and tighten the nuts to hold it in place 
the sound goes down to about five percent.  If I take the nuts off and move 
the radio by hand backwards about a 1/4 in.  the radio plays fine.  Then 
push it back in place and put the nuts back in and nothing.  Has anybody ran 
into this problem?  Please give me some advice.  Thanks, Mike
