Remember, early Japanese cars were not metric, but used the English 
standard. Many of them got their start assembling English cars from 
English parts for Japanese use, and kept the English sizes when they 
started building their own cars, and some parts, like wheels, went 
longer before they changed over to metric.

Early Datsuns are mechanical near clones of BMC products.
