I need a second opinion.....

I recently became the proud owner of an original "65 Monza 4-dr w/110pg that only has 45,000 original miles on it.  It's in such good shape the brake drums have NO RIDGES WORN IN THEM!!!!  Anyway it was driven home from 4 miles away on the e-brake, at night.  It ran and shifted fine.  I, for the last month or so have moved it around the drive a few times, with no  problems rebuilt carbs wouldn't fix.

I finally got to start work on it to make it roadworthy.  When I drained the pg fluid, and removed the pan, I got a real surprise.  The fluid wasn't red, but rather this funky gray color.  It even had a "sweet" smell to it, as opposed to a nasty smell from a fried unit.  Nothing in the pan.

Now, this is where I need the help.....If it doesn't appear fried in any way, and ran and shifted fine, then where did the funky gray fluid come from?

A friend said it looked like gear oil got mixed in.    One guess is the trans/diff gasket blew.  A second guess is the torque converter seal blew.  Are there any other seals or gaskets to check?   Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
